Jain Rock-Cut Monuments

Over 100 medieval Jain statues line the steep sandstone cliffs of Gwalior Fort.

These rock-cut monuments were carved directly into the plateau between the 7th and 15th centuries. You will find them grouped primarily along the approach roads to the fort.

Because they sit along the steep entry paths, you can view them as you travel up to the plateau. The carvings feature seated and standing Tirthankara figures in various sizes.
